February in Crimdon Dene – tree planting, spring clean and beach clean

On a beautiful Spring morning in late February we teamed up with a team from Northumbrian Water, the National Trust and SeaScapes Volunteers to plant trees and clean up Crimdon Dene. The team planted 250 trees comprising Oak, Silver birch and Hawthorn around the dene and planted a hedge around the NW Pumping Station.

This was part of a wider project funded by Northumbrian Water’s Bluespaces project which aims to develop and deliver projects to improve a number of Bluespaces, including popular tourist locations and sites of value to local communities. The scheme focuses on packages of improvements across access and recreational facilities, wildlife and biodiversity, and water quality. Future work in the dene will include repairs and renewal to seating and a new signage.

After collecting 15 bags of rubbish from the dene, the team headed to the beach and collected another 20 bags of rubbish! Team work is awesome!
