The Community Grants Scheme provided an opportunity for communities, groups, and organisations to devise and deliver their own SeaScapes themed project. Each project had to contribute towards the vison of SeaScapes of accessing, celebrating, learning, and igniting stewardship of the Tyne to Tees natural, cultural, and maritime heritage.
SeaScapes held a total of three funding rounds that provided grants from £150 up to a maximum of £2000. The selection process involved an independent panel and once approved, applicants had four months to deliver their project. Once complete, each project produced an evaluation report celebrating and outlining the work achieved. There was a diverse range of participants and projects which included creating art, music and sound, dance and movement, scuba diving, welling being walks, beach cleans, school lessons, photography, wildlife watching, and trips to the beach.
