Ethel Taylor

The Ethel Taylor was steel-hulled trawler 32m in length built in Middlesborough. During WW2 she was converted to an Auxiliary Patrol Vessel and armed with a 12-pounder deck gun.

On 22nd November 1940 she foundered after detonating a German mine off the mouth of the Tyne. The Cullercoats lifeboat launched and rescued the last crew member. Two men were lost, John A. Hardman, Stoker 2nd and John W. Pearson, Engineman.

Today the wreck lies upright and intact, with the hull standing roughly 3.5metres off of the seabed. It is covered in soft corals and is home to a variety of commercial fishing species.

This model demonstrates what the ship would have looked like when it was a trawler.
