SeaScapes Beach Rangers

The Beach Rangers are a group of young volunteers aged 14-18 who meet monthly to discover and explore our coastal wildlife and seascape.

This month we’re taking part in the Marine Conservation Society’s Great British Beach Clean! It’s a citizen science event, where hundreds of beach cleans take place up and down the UK.

So, we’re doing a litter survey: recording all the items of rubbish we find in a 100m stretch.  What do you think we’ll find?

This survey is very important as the litter data we collect will drive our conservation work and also feed into the International Coastal Clean-up (ICC). For more info please click here

We’ll also have some time for a spot of rockpooling and practice our seaweed identification skills.

Please wear warm, weather appropriate clothing, sturdy boots/footwear and bring a packed lunch and drink.

BOOKING IS ESSENTIAL

The Beach Rangers usually meet on the fourth Saturday each month. Activities include rocky shore surveys, beach cleans, seabird walks, practical conservation tasks, wildlife photography, marine mammal surveys, underwater filming and more. We will also investigate how the coastline has changed with industry and development, and how people and wildlife can coexist sharing the coastal environment. The sessions are inclusive to all and encourage team working and problem solving. Perfect if you love nature or being outdoors and a great way to achieve your Duke of Edinburgh or John Muir Awards.

This event is funded by the National Lottery Heritage Fund, and is part of the SeaScapes ‘Intertidal Interactive’ Project. To find out more please visit www.exploreseascapes.co.uk
