Durham Crook Hall to Old Durham Gardens: Views of Durham City and History

Join our experienced SeaScapes and National Trust Walk Leader Volunteers Janet and Steven for a walk exploring Durham and along the River Wear. This is an opportunity to learn about the history, heritage and nature of the area.

This walk is around 4miles/6.5km, and should take around 2 hours to complete. It is advisable to wear walking shoes/boots. Please note that we have had an exceptional amount of rain and the paths will be muddy in places. Be prepared for changing weather conditions and wear or carry appropriate clothing. Please bring a drink and food.

The route starts at National Trust Crook Hall and follows the River Wear over the Millennium Bridge and through Fowler’s Yard (there are steep steps)up to Silver Street. Continues along the River Wear to Maiden Castle and then up to Old Durham Gardens (free entry, donations only). Return route on the other side of the River Wear, through Millennium Place (steps) and back to National Trust Crook Hall.

Please note that parking charges may apply. Please meet outside the café.
