Winter shorebird migration is an annual spectacle, and a reminder of how important our coast is for shorebird conservation. We are ready to help you learn all about it — and enjoy it in the process. At the same time we will be noting down what we see.
What might you see if you join us for a walk? If you are lucky, you may see sanderlings, ringed plovers, turnstones, knots, dunlins, curlew, oystercatchers, redshank, snow buntings and more. Those are the usual suspects, though you never know when a rarity might show up!
We have scheduled 8 shorebird walks during the winter and early spring months, at a variety of locations along the Tyne to Tees coast. Each walk designed for birders of all levels! So, join us as often as you wish, the schedule is:
- Saturday 3rd February- Whitburn
- Tuesday 13th February- Hendon
- Wednesday 6th March – Hartlepool Headland
- Thursday 14th March – Trow Rocks, South Shields
- Monday 18th March – Blackhall Rocks
- Tuesday 26th March- North Gare
- Tuesday 2nd April – Noses Point
